Humble - Hungry

Solid Semana. We are finishing up interviews throughout the mission. This week we visited the zones here in Managua and in tipitapa. This next week we will be in Esteli and in Matagalpa. After we finish in Esteli, i will be staying there with the ZLs until sunday. Three and a half hour bus ride back to managua and straight to the office to do numbers and Skype the fam. Should be pretty sleezy.

Did have a great experience in my own interview this week. President Collado has played a huge role in my life in the mission. We are very different people. But is a man i very much look up to. Even though he doesnt know who steph curry is or what grabbin the wall means or that sleezy is a worldwide enterprise he is someone that has changed my life. Being able to work close to him has been such a great opportunity. He is a great example to me of what kind of man i want to be after the mission.

Now, even though i am with president almost every day of the week, i had the longest interview with him. We sat in his office for about an hour and talked about a lot of things. It was an hour that i will not forget for a long time. After answering several of my questions, he asked me several things that changed my life. One of the things he asked me was how my prayers have changed since i started my mission. I really thought about it and realized that things had changed. after about 30 seconds of silence I responded. At the start of the mission, when all i wanted was to be able to learn how to be successful, i put it all on the line every night. I remember asking god to help me to be able to have success and that i was willing to do anything that he asked me in ortder to accomplish that. I realized that it is like that so much anymore. He explained to me that sometimes after we are blessed with talent-ability-knowledge we stray away from trusting in our god and giving thanks to him that gives us everything we have. 

Trials and circumstances change. Our attitudes and humility should never. As a year is coming around i have been taking time to think about life in an out of the mission. Every good thing i have, i have because my god has given it to me. I have recomitted myself to returning to that state of humility and appreciation that every human being has experienced. This does not mean that the hard work ends. The hunger to be successful in this life and the nature i have been given to never fail is something that i will never get away from. It is something that my father, leaders, sports, and this gospel have taught me. Always humble. Always hungry. Always trusting in the God that has given me everything.

Changes on monday. Made it through pretty easy this time around. There were about 60 missionaries with some sort of change. I just baby sit. 

We got 15 new missionaries on monday. 3 white ones and 12 brown ones. And one of the white ones is a dude from San Antonio texas named elder rammel. My companions and i were talking the entire last week about what would be the sickest thing to do for this kid in his first twelve hours of the mission. He got to our house on monday night at 10 pm. We planned a baptism for 8 oclock in the morning on tuesday and this little guy got in the tank with my sweet lady friend named Kennydete. It was awesome. He threw somebody in (and had to do it 4 times the guy was so nervous haha) with only 9 hours in the mission. Elder rammel had is first interview with president at the mission home that morning and president asked him how his night with the APs went haha. He was way stoked.

Elder Hobbs, Elder Sirrine, Elder Hirschi, and i are all in one companionship now. We live in the same house now and its freakin sick. We call our selves the shark tank. The shark tank has a bunch of people lined up for this weekend and the following couple of weeks. Sharks are gettin in the tank baby! The nicaragua managua north mission baptized 100 people last weekend. Looking to end the month with about two hundred and with only three weekend to confirm because of conference. The goal for the year is 2400 and we are on track. 

This week i was in chinandega from thursday to sunday. Chinandega is the hottest city in nicaragua so yes kate, my buttcrack has been sweaty a lot lately. Rash plan is coming along nicely so elder jake might be making his way out to the swell soon. I worked with a bunch of different guys out there all weekend and then came back sunday night to do numbers all night in the office. Chinandega was dope though. I slept in the dirt, one of the elders i worked with got socked in the face buy a drunk guy, i got bit by a dog, and saw the ocean again. Just a sleezy weekend if you ask me. 

Bryces little quote about forgetting how to repent really affected me this week. Repentance, more than anything, is our understanding of christs role in our life. When we truly understand what he does for us, our hearts change and we are willing to make changes in our lives. Our willingness to be obedient always and to make constant little changes is what brings about great things and genuine happiness. These changes bring us closer to him. And when we are with him, we cannot fall. 

 11 And he hath power given unto him from the Father toredeem them from their sins because of repentance;therefore he hath sent his angels to declare the tidings ofthe conditions of repentance, which bringeth unto thepower of the Redeemer, unto the salvation of their souls.

Dawn Patrol

Elder Jake Checkin in with the Managua Dawn Patrol Report. No swells this week here in managua. Just 100 degrees and 100 percent humidity and a lot of cold glass bottle coca colas. 

Elder Hirschi from west jordan utah is my new ap companion. I am also now in a quartet with elder sirrine, elder hirschi and elder hobbs. its freakin sick. president has changed my role a little bit and now will be a 100 percent traveling ap. I am here in managua monday and tuesday and traveling around the mission wednesday through sunday. 

Conference was great. Hope you guys all had a chance to watch it. I watched almost all the talks. Is boyd k packer not darth sidius from star wars now? "strike me down and your journey to the darkside will be complete haha."

A few talks stuck out to me. A lot of shananigans about marriage at the beginning haha. Loved Bednars talk about how having a knowlegde of and faith in christ allows us to overcome all feelings of uncertainty/guilt/trials. 

The story about the brothers in hollands talk, i immedeatly thought of collin tho. i know that he would have been the one to wait for me and grab me if i had fallen. and i would do the same for him. for bryce. mom. dad. kate. maddy. cass. all the cousins and sleezy. i have been so blessed in my life with people that care for me and wait for me on the edge of lifes cliffs waiting to help me when i fall. 

Christ is the same way but for all of us. I know that Christ lives and that He is their for all of us, waiting, to bring us back when we fall.

Sunrise on the Caribbean - March 30, 2015

I woke up at 5am to watch the sunrise over the Caribbean.

The following letter was taken from a video Dylan made when his plane broke down and he was stuck in an airport in Puerto Cabezas on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. 

All of the houses are like this there. so dope!

"I am currently in the Puerto Cabezas airport and I am waiting in the airport for the plane because the plain broke.  So we were on the plain and i was taking a nice nap and then all of a sudden we are on the runway and the classic engine breaking sound EH EH EH EH.   So the plain is  broke and I am stuck here by myself waiting in the airport with my nice blue tie on.  I had an awesome weekend.  Puerto Cabezas is like all of the pictures we saw and thought all of Nicaragua was going to be.  That is basically what Puerto Cabezas is like.  All of the houses are built on stilts and there is a sweet ocean, the Carribean Sea.   Sandy beaches, people fish, we take canoes to get to places. Most people speak a different language called Miskitu.  Everyone eats turtle and shark.  I didn’t get to eat turtle because I guess it is mating season right now so all of the turtles are mating at the bottom of the ocean and it is illegal to kill them.  I’ll probably be coming back soon.  

I got to hang out with a bunch of my buddies that I haven’t seen in a while.  I got super sunburned and getting back to my regular southern CA shade.  We had a meeting with the whole zone and President on Friday.  I went to the beach a bunch of times not because I wasn’t doing anything but because it is part of a lot of people's areas and the beach is where a lot of people live.  This morning we woke up early to watch the sunrise.  That was really awesome because I have never seen the Caribbean Sea before or really the Atlantic.  We went surfing in Canada that one time with Grandpa Jake on his mission but the ocean here is awesome.  That was my first sunrise ever with the sun rising from the water.  For us in California the sun sets in the water.  They make coconut bread here which is really good.  There are lots of things you can buy that are made out of turtles.  Turtle tastes like cow but a little sweeter and softer.

Things are going good.  There is still only one AP.  WE have conseo tomorrow which is where all of the zone leaders will be in Managua and we will talk about who it went in the months.  We baptized two people on Thursday and they got confirmed yesterday.  I love them, Tommy and Diana.  They are awesome.  The mission baptized 80 people on Saturday which was cool.  230 people in March.  We think that after general conference we will baptism 100 people on Saturday.   Michael was telling me that they were the best mission in Europe and baptized 100 people.  (One of Dylan's closest friends Michael Gleason serves in the Moscow, Russia Mission currently.)  We are looking for a week when we can baptize 100 people in a weekend.  It is funny how different our missions are but I know he is having a great time.  The other day I was thinking that I am just so used to living in Nicaragua that sometimes I forget where I am.  The other day I woke up after sleeping in a hammock at a missionaries house. I went outside to see a bunch of houses over water on the beach.  I love this mission! 

If you cant tell in the pictures I got fried this week. Prez saw me when i got back and asked me how tanning on the beach all weekend was haha. i worked freakin hard out there and was in the sun all day on Sunday bringing people to church until 5 o'clock. Don't worry tho mom i am gonna start using sun block. hopefully i go back to puerto soon its freakin awesome there.   


Everything is fine here.  Don’t worry about me.  I am really busy.  Before I used to say I was lost in the work and don’t take this wrong but I really don’t care what is happening at home anymore, with sports, or with music.  I care about you guys but I really don’t care what is going on because I have so many things to do here and the things here are so important and this is where I am supposed to be.

Surf Report - March 24, 2015

Elder Cua is having a surprise go away dinner in Corinto.  It is a two hour drive from Managua on the northwest coast of Nicaragua.  Dylan and Elder Sirrine surprised him and Dylan visited the ocean for the first time on his mission.

"Hello everybody....swell coming in.  I'm at the ocean and it is amazing.  It is just like Costa Rica but better because there is nobody here.  I came down here because I am going to work with some missionaries in Chinandega.  I visited Elder Cua last night because he lives a block off the beach.  I am pretty jealous about that.  I'm going to talk President and see if he can throw me out here.

Barrell Barrell Barrell!  Aaagh...It is amazing!  The sand is nice here too.  It is shack city, the straight jungle and way doper than Costa Rica because there is nobody here. The beach here is amazing because of the sand.  There are no tourist or surfers.  These aren't even the best beaches.  The best beaches are in the south mission.  The water is not super hot or cold.  There are no surfboards here though so I couldn't go in if I wanted to:)  I would have to take half of someone's house and use that. "

I love you guys so much. hope you have a great week. thank you for you letters. i promise a good letter next week. a lot of time near the beach really allowed me to get in my element and i did a lot of thinking about life and the mish. it was nice. ocean is my home thats for sure. never feel more at home and comfortable and at peace with myself and with life than when i am there. no shredding and water for 2 years is freakin hard but i know god is gonna bless me with a ton of freakin barrels when i get home. love you guys. take it sleezy. dont change on me.
